Scanning
FAQs
What are those black and white targets used for?
Black and white laser scanning targets are used to enhance the accuracy of point cloud data collected by our laser scanners. These targets, typically featuring high-contrast patterns like checkerboards or circles, help the scanner precisely detect and align specific points in a scanned area. By providing a clear reference for the scanner, they facilitate more accurate measurements, enable easier alignment of multiple scans, and help calibrate the scanner's position and orientation, making them essential tools for LiDAR scanning.
Does LiDAR scanning equipment pose any health risks?
There are no health concerns related to the use of our equipment. The lasers our LiDAR scanners use are rated Class 1. Class 1 lasers are considered the safest type of lasers because they emit a very low level of laser radiation, deemed not harmful to the human eye or skin under normal conditions. This safety level is due to their low power output, which is typically less than 0.4 milliwatts for visible wavelengths. As a result, they are often used in consumer electronics like CD/DVD players, laser printers, and barcode scanners. Even prolonged exposure to Class 1 lasers is not hazardous, making them safe for general use without protective eyewear or other safety measures.
What preparation is required for our site before your crew comes to scan?
Our crews and equipment can certainly work around a lot of obstacles on construction sites but the clearer the environment, the more efficiently we can capture fine details for your project. An optimal scanning environment is free of extraneous matter (equipment, supplies), people and dust. Avoid planning for scanning to take place during major construction phases and/or when large deliveries are scheduled.
